Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 14 individuals suspected to be involved in internet fraud activities. The arrests were carried out on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, during a sting operation conducted across multiple locations in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.

The operation, which was based on actionable intelligence, took place in the Ikot Akpanabia, Udoudoma, and Nwaniba areas of the city. Among those arrested are three undergraduate students of the University of Uyo, further highlighting the growing trend of youth involvement in cybercrime.

During the raid, EFCC operatives recovered several items believed to be tools used in the suspected fraudulent activities. These include 26 smartphones, one iPad, three laptop computers, a wristwatch, and a black Toyota Camry vehicle.

The suspects are currently in EFCC custody and are undergoing further investigation. According to the Commission, they will be charged to court once the investigations are concluded.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to eradicating cybercrime in Nigeria, especially among young people, and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious internet-related activities to the appropriate authorities.
