Rivers State Government Accuses House of Assembly of Obstructing Governor Fubara’s Efforts to Implement Supreme Court Ruling.

The Rivers State Government has condemned the Rivers State House of Assembly’s renewed attempt to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing lawmakers of obstructing his efforts to implement a Supreme Court ruling. The Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, had accused the governor and his deputy of gross misconduct.

In response, Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, released a statement alleging that the Assembly’s actions were preventing the governor from fulfilling the court’s directives. The statement emphasized Fubara’s commitment to peace and compliance with the ruling, which included directives on local government elections, budget re-presentation, and revenue allocations.

Despite Fubara’s repeated attempts to present the 2025 budget, including formal letters and public notices, the Assembly allegedly refused to acknowledge them. Instead, the lawmakers issued ultimatums, challenged state appointments, and went on indefinite recess, actions the government claims will severely impact state finances, salaries, and governance.

The Rivers State Government urged the Assembly to reconsider its stance to prevent economic and political crises in the state.
