Omoyele Sowore Backs NYSC Member Uguamaye Amid Controversy Over Anti-Tinubu Video.

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights advocate and 2023 general election presidential contender, has endorsed Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, the National Youth Service Corps member who has been the target of criticism for her widely shared video that attacks President Bola Tinubu's government.

In a video posted on X on Monday, Sowore said he had met with Uguamaye in Lagos and that he and a group of lawyers would be going to the NYSC Local Government Inspector's office together.

In Lagos, the trip with young Corper Ushie Rita Uguamaye has begun. We will accompany her to the LGI's (Local Government Inspector) headquarters, where she is expected to appear today. All of us are traveling with lawyers. Sowore wrote a caption for the video.

After sharing a video on TikTok in which she openly criticized Tinubu's leadership and bemoaned the nation's deteriorating economic circumstances, the corps member recently went viral.

Following her claims that she had been threatened for her remarks, there was a great deal of discussion in Nigeria about political dissent and free speech. She additionally uploaded a screen grab of an invitation from the NYSC, requesting that she come to the LGI office at Eti Osa 3 on Monday at 10:00 a.m.

The matter has been further escalated by Sowore's involvement, which has increased awareness of Uguamaye's case and the possible consequences she could encounter from the NYSC or other authorities. The NYSC has not yet released an official statement on the subject.
