INEC Rejects Petition to Recall Senator Natasha Akpoti Over Incomplete Submission.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a petition seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, due to non-compliance with legal requirements.
The petition, submitted with six bags of documents containing signatures from over half of the district’s 474,554 registered voters, was rejected because the petitioners failed to provide complete contact details for their representatives, as required by Clause 1(f) of INEC’s 2024 Recall Guidelines. Only a vague address and a single phone number were provided.
INEC emphasized that the recall process follows constitutional and legal guidelines, including signature verification via the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). The Commission stated it would use alternative means to notify the petitioners and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency. It also urged the public to ignore misinformation on social media.
