The EFCC deployed bomb detectors and heavily armed operatives to the Federal High Court in Abuja ahead of the trial of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, on alleged N80 billion money laundering charges.
Security personnel arrived early, took control of the court premises, and conducted a 30-minute search for explosives before allowing only those directly involved in the case — including lawyers and journalists — into the courtroom.
While the reason for the heightened security was unclear, it was reportedly part of efforts to prevent any disruption by hoodlums.
Bello, who was granted N500 million bail in December 2024, continues to attend the trial from his home. The case is before Justice Emeka Nwite, with Joseph Daudu, SAN, representing Bello and Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, leading the EFCC’s legal team.
