Newlywed Couples Escape Death in Lagos Third Mainland Bridge.

A newlywed couple returning from the Ikoyi Marriage Registry was among the 18 individuals injured in a sad accident on Saturday on Lagos' Third Mainland Bridge near Ilaje.

A commercial LT bus (BFG 204 XF) and a small vehicle (AGL 22 YE) were involved in the collision.

The general manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, stated that the truck was traveling slowly because of technical problems when the bus' brakes failed at a high speed.

Eleven women and five men were among the 16 people in the back of the bus who suffered serious injuries.

Prior to being rescued, two passengers in the front were trapped in the wreckage after suffering severe fractures.

The injured were quickly taken to hospitals by emergency response teams, such as LASTMA, the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASABUS), and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

Those with fractures received specialized care at Gbagada General Hospital, while the majority of sufferers were transported to the Lagos State Trauma and Emergency Center.

Bakare-Oki of LASTMA sent her sympathies to the victims and reminded drivers to keep their cars in good condition and to respect speed restrictions, especially during the holiday season.

He emphasized LASTMA's continuous efforts to raise awareness of commercial drivers' road safety.

In order to ensure a coordinated reaction to the situation, law enforcement officers from Lagos State Task Force and Alonge Police Station secured the location during rescue efforts.
