December 2, ASUP to start a countrywide strike.

Comrade Abubakar J. Abdullah, the chairman of the Kaduna Polytechnic Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), stated that the union will close all polytechnics in the country by December 2 because the Federal Government has not complied with its continue Reading.....

He clarified that on October 6, 2024, the union leadership sent a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, laying forth urgent requests meant to address the structural issues impeding polytechnic advancement. But he said that the administration did not deal with the problems. 

Speaking at a news briefing in Kaduna on Tuesday, November 26, the chairman enumerated a number of demands, such as the prompt payment of accumulated arrears, the implementation of the approved 25/35% salary review across all public polytechnics, and the quick release of the second tranche of the NEEDS Assessment Intervention fund. 

Additional demands include addressing insufficient funds, settling the issue of unpaid allowances, releasing and conclusively resolving the decades-long arrears of CONTISS-15 migration for lower cadres, and releasing outstanding promotion arrears. 

Unfortunately, despite the expiration of this ultimatum, the Federal Government has not yet taken the required steps to meet these urgent needs. 

If our concerns are not addressed, the inaction and quiet have forced us to contemplate the potential of a complete closure of our institutions on December 2, 2024," he stated. 

According to Comrade Abdullahi, the government's responsiveness was critical to the educational system's continued existence and caliber. 

According to him, the union cannot afford to make concessions on these matters any longer since it believes that a robust education sector is essential to the country's future. 

He called on the federal government to hold serious talks with the union and move swiftly to address issues
