The former National Anthem, "Nigeria, we hail thee," will once again be played. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally signed the bill.
Nigerians have responded to this decision in a variety of ways on social media. Many think that this is a misguided priority move.
The existing national anthem, "Arise O Compatriots," will be replaced after the law is officially approved by the Senate and the House of Representatives.
President Tinubu's action coincides with the first anniversary of his constitutionally mandated one-year administration, which he assumed in 2023 following his electoral victory.
