On Tuesday, April 30, a single, deadly car accident happened at Ekwegbe, along the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road in Enugu state, leaving six travelers dead.

Two (2) ladies who perished beyond identification and fourteen (14) males whose identities are still unknown perished in the accident. 

An eighteen-seater white Toyota Hummer bus bearing the Bauchi State commercial registration number DAS 215 XA and the words "Masha Allah" was involved in the disaster. 

The bus, which was allegedly driven at a high pace, reportedly lost control and collided into the roadside Maduka University barrier.

Following a preliminary police investigation, it was discovered that the car tragically caught fire, destroying everything within. 

The sixteen (16) people inside were then taken to the hospital and declared deceased. 

However, police officers, soldiers, and well-meaning civilians who arrived to the scene right after managed to save the lives of two (2) more passengers and transport them to the hospital for medical assistance. 

According to the preliminary inquiry, the car was traveling from the Enugu axis of the road towards Nsukka while carrying edible veggies, other food items, and the passengers' luggage. 

On the other hand, the vehicle's precise takeoff and landing locations are unknown. Still, the Igbo-Etiti Police Division has retrieved the things.

The event was confirmed by the command spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who also claimed that the Federal Road Safety Corps representatives and Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, had visited the area to examine the situation. 

Uzuegbu commiserated with the deceased's unidentified friends, family, and connections and termed the accident and the ensuing slaughter as tragic.
