JUST IN: Atiku Promises To Support Peter Obi If PDP Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket To South-East.

During a recent interview with BBC Hausa, Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, stated that he would support his party if it zones its presidential ticket to the South East and selects Peter Obi as its candidate. Read full article

Atiku stated, "I have consistently maintained, even before the 2023 general elections, that if the PDP zones the presidential ticket to the South or specifically to the South-East, I will not contest it. I will respect the party's decision.

However, I contested the 2023 presidential ticket because it was open to all party members. If the party decides that it’s the turn of the South-East and selects Peter Obi, I will not hesitate to support him.

When asked about his recent meeting with Peter Obi, Atiku described it as "a routine friendly meeting that we often have, especially among those of us in the opposition parties.

Such interactions are beneficial for Nigeria's democracy and in the country's best interest.

The former Vice President refuted claims that selecting a presidential candidate could hinder the merger discussions.

That’s not true. That challenge will not arise. I can assure you that the choice of the party's candidate won't be an issue," he stated.

On why he remains active in politics, Atiku said:

We can't stay silent while things go wrong. People are suffering, and we are dedicated to making Nigeria a better place.

Does this mean you're not tired of Nigerian politics? Not at all. I am still actively involved in Nigerian politics, for as long as God allows.

My age doesn't prevent young people from pursuing their ambitions. Everyone, regardless of age, has the right to aspire to any role in society, politically or otherwise.

Regarding his 2027 presidential ambitions, the former Vice President stated:

That would depend on the decision of my party. I can't make any definitive statement on that. It's up to the party to determine the direction for the next election.
