According to the Nigerian Army, plans are in place to construct suitable private residences for each and every soldier battling the nation's insecurity.
It further stated that there has been a twofold increase in premiums paid to beneficiaries of several insurance programs that provide for the dependents of soldiers in the case of an emergency, without a matching increase in contributions.
This was announced on Tuesday, April 16, during the First Quarter Chief of Army Staff Conference 2024 in Abuja by Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff.
Three-star general Lagbaja clarified that in order to raise and enhance soldier morale, the Nigerian Army is putting new welfare programs into place.
One such initiative, he noted, is the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS), which aims to lessen the difficulties veterans face in finding private housing after leaving the military.
The head of the army announced that he had given the Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL) instructions to reserve 5% of each estate's AHOOAS Scheme for the distribution to troops with disabilities related to their operations.
He added that the Nigerian Army would pay 100% of the soldiers' housing costs, noting that this is a means of making the program inclusive and considerate of the situation of soldiers facing such difficulties.
