In a statement released on Sunday and signed by the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, the Kaduna State Government announced the liberation of the 287 schoolchildren who were abducted from Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area.
The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians, specifically mentioning his efforts in securing the release of the kidnapped children.
Governor Sani also acknowledged President Tinubu's consistent support and collaboration throughout the ordeal.
The governor also commended the Nigerian Army officers for their courage in ensuring the successful release of the schoolchildren.
He praised the Nigerian Army for demonstrating that with courage, determination, and commitment, criminal elements can be degraded and security restored in our communities.
He also expressed gratitude to all Nigerians who fervently prayed for the safe return of the school children, declaring it a day of joy and attributing all glory to Almighty Allah.
The abduction of schoolchildren from LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School, Kuriga, occurred on March 7, 2024, when hoodlums forcibly took them into the forest.
The abductors demanded N1bn for their release, setting a deadline of March 27, 2024, for the ransom payment.
