Mariah Thomas, 26, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after one-month-old Za’Riah Mae was found dead with 'burn wounds', according to an arrest warrant.

On Friday, the day after Mariah's birthday, authorities were called to the mother's Kansas City residence due to allegations of a youngster who was not breathing.

Upon their arrival, they discovered the baby covered in burns, her diaper melting into her "blackened" clothing.

Za'Riah was a "very bubbly" infant who was "smiling all the time," according to a distraught friend of Thomas' who spoke to DailyMail.

She added that Thomas's mental state might have contributed to the catastrophe.

The acquaintance stated that she last spoke with the mother on Monday and that Mariah "did not have the mindset of an adult, she thought like a child." "From what I know, Mariah had mental issues."

According to Za'Riah's grandfather, who spoke to police, her mother called him at about 1:00 pm on Friday to inform him that "something was wrong with the baby" and that he needed to go back home right once.

When he got home, he smelled smoke right away and saw Za'Riah dead in her crib. Court documents state that Thomas informed him that she had "accidentally" put her in the oven.

When officers arrived at Za'Riah's house, they found her in a car seat with "apparent thermal injuries on various parts of her body.

She was "very dirty, possibly burned," with a diaper that looked like it had melted into her bodysuit. Additionally, a burned baby blanket was found and removed as proof.

After being taken to the police headquarters, Thomas used her Fifth Amendment right to silence during the interview. However, she gave detectives permission to take a blood sample and view her phone data.

Thomas displays herself on social media as a devoted mother who called her daughter her "princess."

Only a few weeks prior to the tragedy, Thomas posted a troubling post in which she bemoaned the lack of support she was receiving.

On January 20, she wrote, "Mfs claim they my friend by don't ever check up on me or Za'Riah."
At the Jackson County Detention Center, Thomas is being held at the moment.
