Tragic Incident in Ilorin: Kwara Fire Service Recovers Body of 18-Year-Old Waliyah from Home Well.


 The 18-year-old girl Waliyah's body was recovered by the Kwara Fire Service from a home well in the Ilorin West Local Government Area. It happened in the Ile-Olodo Ita Merin - Alore neighborhood of Ilorin on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at approximately six o'clock in the evening.


According to Daily Trust, the teenager unexpectedly jumped into the well after chatting amicably with neighbors in the compound, leaving residents in shock. 

Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the spokesperson of the fire service, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. He stated that the recovered body was handed over to her family.

Adekunle's statement read, “On the 7th of November 2023, at 18:46 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service responded to an emergency rescue operation in the Ile-olodo Ita Merin - Alore area of Ilorin, Ilorin West Local Government Area Kwara State. 

Regrettably, an 18-year-old girl named Waliyah had drowned in a domestic well. The dedicated personnel of the Kwara State Fire Service successfully recovered her lifeless body and respectfully handed it over to Alhaji Adisa Akanbi Magaji of Ile Olodo, Ita-Merin, Ilorin.

In response to this tragic incident, the Director of the service, Prince Falade John, emphasized the importance of safety awareness among the public. He sternly warned parents and guardians against allowing their children to fetch water from household wells.
