The state election petition tribunal's decision to nullify Yusuf's election as a member of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) was maintained by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

But in an attempt to challenge this ruling, Yusuf and his party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), announced their intention to take the issue all the way to the Supreme Court.
