Japa: Lagos University Teaching Hospital Closes Five Wards Due to Shortage of Health Workers, Committee Aims to Tackle Brain Drain.

 The House of Representatives Committee on Health has disclosed that five wards with around 150 beds at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) have been closed due to a shortage of health workers. Read full article 

Dr. Amos Magaji, the committee chairman, expressed concern over brain drain affecting LUTH, particularly the departure of nurses and doctors seeking opportunities abroad.

 Magaji highlighted the urgent need to address the migration of health professionals, stating that steps are being taken to curb the situation. 

He mentioned plans to address issues such as enrollment in universities, employment of house officers, and the residency program.

 The committee is committed to working with the Federal Government and LUTH to find solutions to the challenges faced by the health sector. 

The Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing health care challenges and called for collaboration from corporate individuals and Nigerians.
