Global protestors have gathered in support of the Palestinians in Gaza, denouncing the high number of civilian deaths in Israeli attacks and demanding an immediate end to hostilities.

On Thursday, there were protests all around Spain, as well as in Mexico City, Rotterdam, New York, Rabat, and other places.

A ceasefire was also demanded and people demonstrated support for the Palestinian cause during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers held around Asia.

After taking a similar stance last month, students all around Spain went on strike once more. In 38 towns, including Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Bilbao, Zaragoza, and Madrid, students from universities and high schools convened.

More than a month into the conflict, which broke out when the Palestinian organisation Hamas assaulted southern Israel on October 7, calls for a ceasefire to protect civilians in Gaza have risen.

Israel promised to overthrow Hamas and destroy its military capabilities in retaliation for the group's attack, launching airstrikes and a land invasion of northern Gaza.

According to Palestinian health authorities, at least 11,500 Palestinians have died, with women and youngsters making up the majority of the dead. 2,700 more people are missing and are thought to be buried under debris.

Due to a fuel shortage, internet and phone services were down throughout the Gaza Strip on Thursday, perhaps leading to a long-term communications blackout.

Israel has hinted that the majority of the enclave's two million residents had sought safety in the south, where its attack against Hamas may next target.
