On October 1 at Skydive Chicago Airport, Dorothy Hoffner, a celebrated centenarian who gained fame across the world for her extraordinary skydiving trip, set the record for the oldest tandem parachute jump.

The previous year, a 103-year-old Swedish woman held the previous record for this feat.

Despite her advanced age, Dorothy Hoffner evaluated her skydiving experience as peaceful and enjoyable.

She told the Chicago Sun-Times that when she landed in Ottawa, which is about 80 miles southwest of Chicago, "There was nothing    about it. It was nice and peaceful.

According to Ms. Hoffner's acquaintance Joe Conant, staff at the Brookdale Lake View senior care facility discovered her body. It's believed that she passed away on Sunday night.

The US Parachute Association and Skydive Chicago expressed their pleasure that Hoffner's final jump put an end to her "exciting, well-lived life."

Skydiving is an activity that many of us put on our bucket lists for safekeeping, but Dorothy reminds us that it's never too late to embrace the thrill of a lifetime, they said.

The New York Times said that Ms. Hoffner was first "not excited" about the media attention she received the previous week.

But as the weekend drew near, she changed her mind and saw it as a chance to meet new people.

The cause of Ms. Hoffner's death has not yet been determined, according to a nurse who had known her for roughly five years.
