Ryan Smith, aged 41, was taken into custody on October 13 on charges of burglary, criminal trespassing, and tampering with physical evidence. Subsequently, he was terminated from his position at an Omaha mortuary.

According to court documents, Smith and a colleague were dispatched to the Rock Creek Apartments to collect the body of a man who had died of natural causes. While at the scene, Smith noticed the life-sized doll.

Both workers were representing Mid America First Call, a company specializing in the removal, transportation, embalming, and cremation of bodies.

Later that day, Smith reportedly called the property manager, asserting that the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office intended to return to the unit to retrieve the doll for a "biopsy."

The property manager investigated after hearing noises from inside the unit, which had been deadbolted and secured with a chain. There, the manager allegedly discovered Smith engaged in a sexual act with the doll. Smith, with disheveled clothing, subsequently exited the unit and warned the manager of his intention to return with a warrant to secure the doll.

Fearing further break-ins or property theft, the manager contacted the police and reported the incident. Investigators noticed that several items in the unit had been displaced since their initial visit that day.

The Douglas County Crime Lab is currently processing fingerprints collected from the moved items and is expected to request DNA samples from the doll.

Although the incident occurred off-duty, Justin Dalton, the owner of Mid America First Call, confirmed Smith's termination from his position.
