The infant was born on Sunday, August 27, 2023, and was abandoned in the bathroom, according to the Anambra Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Affairs. The mother, Nwaedoka Chidimma, 20, is from Izzi in the Ebonyi state.

Chidimma's acquaintance and farmer Esther Omesi claimed the suspect requested a few days at her home due to an agricultural job.

Omesi talked about how the victim began acting strangely on Sunday after telling her she was experiencing stomach discomfort and going to the pit to relieve herself. Omesi said Chidimma took some time and later emerged from the toilet, dripping in blood.

According to Mrs. Omesi, they responded to a baby's cry on Tuesday, August 29, by promptly using a ladder to rescue the infant and alerting the appropriate authorities.

As soon as the event came to the knowledge of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon. Ify Obinabo, she intervened by transporting the newborn to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Amaku Awka for treatment and apprehending the offender.
