The Public Struggles and Private Tragedies of Sinead O'Conner, Who Died at 56 revealed

According to numerous sources, Sinead O'Connor, who rose to fame internationally in 1990 after covering Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U," has passed away at the age of 56. The news was initially reported by The Irish Times. As of yet, no cause of death has been given.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad," her family said in a statement to RTE. Her family and friends are inconsolable and have asked for privacy during this extremely trying time.

O'Connor, who was born in Glenageary, Ireland, in 1966, rose to prominence as one of the nation's most well-known performers, joining U2, Enya, and The Cranberries in the '80s and '90s as global superstars.

However, O'Connor's private life was tainted by tragedy and battles with mental illness. After going missing in Ireland, her son Shane committed suicide in January 2022 at the age of 17, and the artist has made numerous subsequent public suicide threats.

O'Connor received widespread acclaim after her second album, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, was published. The four-time GRAMMY nominee for Best Alternative Music Performance won the prize and had seven million copies sold globally.
