In response to rumours that Abdullahi Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, ought to be chosen the APC's national chairman, Lukman resigned.
In a letter dated July 26, Lukman stated that the present climate within APC was at odds with the founding founders' intentions.
The APC National Working Committee, NWC, led by acting National Chairman Abubakar Kyari, was the recipient of the letter.
APC had been cautioned by Lukman not to install Ganduje in place of Abdullahi Adamu, the previous National Chairman.
Replacing Adamu with Ganduje would be suicidal.
