The Department of State Services, DSS, continues to hold Alhaji Aminu Yaro of Sarkin Hausawan in Lagos because of his suspected ties to the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. This is being condemned by the Concerned Northern Forum.
The forum characterised the detention as an affront to human rights and the rule of law.
The group said in a statement released on Sunday and signed by the forum's chairman, Mohammed Danlami, "We don't see any legal justification for the DSS to continue holding such a respected figure in custody, a community leader and well-known businessman along with his wife.
This is barbarous; we despise and oppose it; it is not practised anyplace in the world; it is not democratic; it only occurs under military dictatorship.
He regretted the DSS's failure to arraign him and argued that a person is assumed innocent unless and unless found guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
Danlami urged President Bola Tinubu to summon the DSS to order, claiming that the group could not disregard the alleged injustice being meted out to Yaro and his wife.
Additionally, it urged Nigerians to gather in large numbers for a nonviolent demonstration against the DSS leadership's disregard for the law and unprofessional behaviour.
