President Bola Tinubu has received advice on cost-cutting measures from Kano Central Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.

Representatives don't need the Senate, Shekarau tells Tinubu.

President Bola Tinubu has received advice on cost-cutting measures from Kano Central Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.

Shekarau suggested to Tinubu that one approach to lower the cost of government was to reduce the size of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Shekarau asserted on Channels Television's Politics Today on Wednesday night that Tinubu does not require both chambers in Nigeria.

"Left to me, we don't need the two chambers, the two houses," Shekarau said.

"It costs the nation money. I agree that a democracy requires including as many people as possible, yet given the current state of things, there are over 500 legislators around the country.

109 senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives make up the National Assembly.
