In Ukraine, a Russian airstrike kills a 2-year-old girl and injures 22 others.

After an alleged Russian airstrike in a residential sector of the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, a two-year-old girl was murdered and 22 other people were hurt.

The region's governor reported that her body had been discovered overnight among the ruins of a home in the Pidhorodnenska neighbourhood.

Five of those hurt, including three boys who are in a bad condition in the hospital, were children, according to Serhiy Lysak.

Volodymyr Zelensky has attributed the attack to Russia, although the Kremlin has not yet responded to the news.

Additionally, explosions have been heard over Kyiv, the country's capital, where air defence systems have once more been deployed. Air attack warnings had previously been issued for the entire nation.

Although Russia has consistently denied intentionally targeting civilians during its invasion of the neighbouring country, Mr. Zelensky claimed that the explosion in Dnipro was the result of a premeditated Russian strike.

The regional governor reported that after the purported strike, fires broke out in a city neighbourhood in the north, and that 17 people injured in the blast were transferred to the hospital.

There were reports of explosions in other regions of the nation. According to the chief of the military administration of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, air defence systems were activated early on Sunday to fend off air attacks close to Kyiv.

Serhiy Popko said on the Telegram message channel that all missiles aimed at the city had been shot down.

As a result of Russian bombardment, Sumy officials in the north reported 87 blasts, resulting in injuries and infrastructure destruction.

The southern Russian-controlled city of Berdyansk and Melitopol also experienced more than a dozen explosions, though specifics were scarce. Additionally, reports of explosions have come from Kropyvnitsky, a city in the centre.

Officials in Russia reported on Saturday that two further persons had died in new strikes in the border region of Belgorod.

Although Ukraine claimed that its own fighters were killed as a result of Russia's attempts to target opponents of the Moscow government, local authorities blamed Ukraine.

In recent weeks, there have been a number of attacks in the area, most notably a significant cross-border invasion late last month that, according to Moscow, resulted in the deaths of 70 assailants.

Kyiv again claimed that Russian paramilitaries were behind the attack and denied any direct involvement.

In other news, a senior advisor to President Zelensky claimed that his nation is still not prepared to launch its long-promised counteroffensive against Russian occupiers.

In an interview with the UK's Sunday Times, Dr. Ihor Zhovkva attributed the problem to a lack of weapons and ammo.

His statements appeared to be at odds with those of Mr. Zelensky, who was quoted as claiming Ukraine was prepared to begin the action just one day earlier.

The Sunday Times suggested that Ukraine's authorities' contradictory remarks might be an intentional ruse to mislead Moscow.
