CBN: Omokri to Tinubu: Don't be like Buhari; let Emefiele explain himself.
Sociopolitical activist Reno Omokri has advised President Bola Tinubu against imprisoning the detained former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, without charge.
Omokri advised Tinubu to give Emefiele the opportunity to respond to any accusations levelled against him.
He warned Tinubu not to make the same error as former President Muhammadu Buhari by detaining government personnel without giving them a chance to defend themselves.
Omokri asked in a tweet: "Where is Godwin Emefiele? He shouldn't be imprisoned, and the Tinubu administration shouldn't start making accusations against him in the media. Upon taking office in 2015, Buhari immediately carried out this action against members of the Jonathan government.
"They were imprisoned, and at that time, accusations were made to discredit them in front of the public without providing them a chance to respond.
"We hoped that the difficult times were behind us. Ask Emefiele questions and even charge him, but give him an opportunity to refute these allegations and implications.
"Where's he at? What court order is he being held under? Let him speak to the Nigerians. President Tinubu shouldn't carry on his immediate harsh practises after a successful start. This is comparable to what Abacha did in 1994, which sent even Tinubu into exile.
