Karim Benzema, the captain of Real Madrid, has informed the team that he would be departing.
After 14 years, Benzema has made the decision to leave the LaLiga giants.
The 35-year-old is now anticipated to sign a lucrative contract to join Al-Ittihad.
Real Madrid released a statement saying that it and its captain, Karim Benzema, "have agreed to put an end to his brilliant and unforgettable era as a player at our club."
"Madrid wants to express its gratitude and love to someone who is one of our greatest legends," the statement reads.
This affirmation follows manager Carlo Ancelotti's statement on Saturday that there was "no doubt" regarding Benzema's future at Madrid and that the forward still had one year remaining on his contract.
