Wike received backlash for naming the new Rivers courthouse after his wife.

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers, has come under fire for naming the state's new courthouse Suzette Eberechi after his wife.

People frequently compliment Wike for his generosity. Is it wrong if I'm kind to myself? Let me also name that one (the courthouse) after my wife when I leave, he said.

In the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (LGA), the Magistrate Court was built on Moscow Road.

The building was one of the initiatives that Wednesday's visit by President-elect Bola Tinubu to the state saw him commission.

Aziz Bakare, a Twitter user, sparked a discussion over the weekend after he criticised Wike for acting as though he owned public funds.

The courage to make such a comment after spending tax payer money to build a public facility, according to Bakare, is "incredible" in a tweet that received hundreds of outraged replies.

"To make matters worse, the wife is a judge at the moment in the same state. Ignore the NBA, is the NJC still in operation? How is that moral?

"Gov. Wike didn't end there. He allegedly gave the Chief Justice in office and other judges' names to other structures in the courthouse.

Bakare claimed that Tinubu's team's due diligence "should have indicated that such ethical misstep should not have been included in his first "public responsibility."
