Seun Kuti: Okotie Pleads With Police IG For Mercy...

Seun Kuti urges the IGP to balance justice and mercy.

Rev. Chris Okotie, a former candidate for president, has pleaded with Alkali Baba, Inspector-General of Police, to have pity on Seun Kuti in relation to his legal dispute with the police.

The controversial rapper is currently in custody for punching a police officer during a recent encounter in traffic, which has caused outrage across the nation.

Rev. Okotie argued for the music star's amnesty in a statement released in Lagos yesterday by his media adviser, Ladi Ayodeji.

"I would like to urge the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to show paternal clemency towards Seun Kuti in his transgression against an authorised myrmidon of the law," he said.

"Anti-establishment sentiment is unacceptable in any form, but effective leadership is characterised by a humane supervision.
"The youth have been under intense pressure to create a new social structure in Nigeria, and Seun's aggressive behaviour is a deviation from that course.

"I beg the IGP sincerely to balance justice with mercy and clear Seun of all charges. We are grateful for the creative craftsmanship displayed in the musical genre by Femi and Seun Kuti, artistic gifts from the illustrious Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Please have the grace to acknowledge the seriousness of this provocation.

"May the blessings of the Lord your God be upon you in the fullness of His grace."

Okotie's letter was sent after the court extended Seun's imprisonment by an additional four days.
