In response to the uproar surrounding his handshake with Ooni of Ife, Pete Edochie
Moment: "It's disrespectful." Kanayo Pete Edochie.O.Kanayo's greeting to Ooni at a gathering sparks controversy
Veteran actor in Nollywood Pete Edochie responded to criticism of the handshake he exchanged with Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife.
Edochie and Kanayo O Kanayo can be seen arriving at Elizabeth Jack Rich's 40th birthday party and walking up to the Yoruba king's table to introduce themselves in a now-viral video.
The actors extended the popular Igbo backhand handshake to the traditional head of state, which the Ooni politely accepted while beaming.
Some internet users claim that Pete and Kanayo should have bowed to the Ooni, a first-class monarch, in the Yoruba way.
A person who thought Pete Edochie's behaviour was improper and who termed it disrespectful to the queen called him out on Twitter.
Tweep penned;
"This is valuable, but I won't emphasise it... I gave it a pass.
Entrepreneur Sommy Keshi defended Pete Edochie by asking why a titled Chief like Pete Edochie would bow to the Ooni.
He inscribed: "High Chief for a reason, Igbo Kwenu"
In reaction, Pete posted Sommy Keshi's answer to the Twitter user who had dragged him on his Instagram story.
