The Labour Party, LP, and Peter Obi, its presidential candidate, filed an application with the presidential election petition court asking to have the hearings televised. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has instructed the court to reject the plea.
After the pre-hearing session on Wednesday, Levy Ozoukwu, counsel for Obi and LP, acknowledged to journalists that INEC had objected to their request for a live broadcast.
"Surprisingly, INEC is objecting," stated Ozoukwu.
"A public entity that receives funding from the government and speaks for the people claims they oppose live broadcasting. What do they have to hide?
