Seun Kuti, an Afrobeat musician, was granted bail on Tuesday by the Chief Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos State.
S. A. Adebese, the police prosecutor, had asked the court to remand the defendant for 21 days.
The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) would be able to produce legal advice within the three weeks, according to the counsel.
Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and defence attorney, however, argued against the plea in his argument.
Falana pleaded with the judge not to remand his client, saying that he was unaware of a request to that effect.
After his car was halted, the legendary Fela Kuti's son was taken into custody for slapping an officer on third mainland bridge.
