After eight years of leading the nation, he said to dignitaries who descended on the capital on Friday that he couldn't wait to return home.
The ceremony, which took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was the ninth and last Sallah homage.
Buhari, who was beaming, said he was fortunate to have served Nigeria in a variety of leadership positions, including governor, minister, head of state, and president.
He praised FCT inhabitants for serving as accommodating hosts over the past 7 and half years.
