Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, is being investigated by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for allegedly acting irrationally towards police officers assigned to carry out their official duties.
The Police stated that the alleged insults directed at on-duty police officers seen in a popular video constitute criminal behaviour and are punishable under Nigerian law.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a CSP with the FPRO, adding that the singer's behaviour in the video was disorderly in a statement that was made accessible to newsmen in Abuja.
Additionally, Adejobi stated that the actions were likely to result in a disturbance and encouragement of violence against the police who were sent to arrest him pursuant to a warrant.
In accordance with the gravity of the offence, the NPF, in his words, "will take all necessary efforts to examine his acts and guarantee that he is prosecuted for any illegal behaviour he may have undertaken.
"The Police will not tolerate any disorderly behaviour, violence, or attack on its officers who are performing their official duties.
"We need to acknowledge the danger that law enforcement officers take to uphold the rule of law and combat crime and criminality in our community."
