JUST IN: Buni of the APC declared the winner of Yobe governorship election by INEC.

In the state's gubernatorial election held on Saturday, Yobe's Gov. Mai Mala Buni has been proclaimed the victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The results were made public in Damaturu on Sunday by INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Umaru Pate.

Pate reported that Buni of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 317,113 votes to defeat his nearest opponent, Alhaji Sherif Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 124,259 votes. 

He declared that APC candidate Buni Mai Mala had won the poll and was re-elected after complying with all legal procedures.

Alhaji Garba Umar of the New Nigerian People's Party (NNPP) came in a distant third with 14,246 votes, according to Pate, who is also the vice chancellor of Federal University Kashere in Gombe. Arabi Mohammed of the Action Alliance (AA) received 3,260 votes.

He stated that there were 1,485,141 registered voters and 459,492 accredited voters overall. He further stated that 444,567 votes were valid, 13,214 votes were rejected, and 457,781 votes were cast in total.
