Prophet Muhammad was born in the city of Mecca, in present-day Saudi Arabia, in the year 570 CE. His parents were Abdullah and Amina, and his father died before he was born. His mother passed away when he was six years old, and he was then raised by his grandfather and later by his uncle.
As a young man, Muhammad was known for his honesty and integrity and earned the nickname "Al-Amin," which means "the trustworthy." He spent much of his time meditating in the caves outside Mecca, seeking spiritual guidance and contemplating the nature of existence.
At the age of 40, Muhammad received his first revelation from Allah (God) while meditating in a cave on Mount Hira. The Angel Gabriel appeared to him and commanded him to "Read" (in Arabic "Iqra"), and Muhammad replied that he could not read. The Angel Gabriel then embraced him and repeated the command to read, and Muhammad began to recite verses that would later become the first verses of the Quran.
Muhammad continued to receive revelations from Allah over the next 23 years, and he preached the message of Islam to his family, friends, and community. The message of Islam emphasized the oneness of God, the importance of following His commands, and the belief in the Day of Judgment.
Despite facing opposition and persecution from those who rejected his message, Muhammad continued to spread the teachings of Islam, and his followers grew in number. Eventually, he and his followers migrated to the city of Medina in 622 CE, an event known as the Hijra, which marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.
In Medina, Muhammad established a community of Muslims and continued to receive revelations from Allah, which were recorded in the Quran. He also developed a legal and social system based on Islamic principles, which would go on to have a profound impact on the world.
Muhammad passed away in 632 CE in Medina, but his legacy as a prophet and the founder of Islam continues to this day.
