Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, has given Olaleye Faleye, the Commissioner of Police for the Osun Command, orders to investigate the alleged assault on a female Police Inspector, Bamidele Olorunsogo, that was allegedly committed by her DCO, Ajayi Matthew, in the Ode-Omu area of the state. The alleged assault was carried out by Matthew.
This comes in the wake of a video that went viral on social media, showing Bamidele being beaten and dehumanised in horrific ways.
Bamidele, a senior member of her team at the Ode-Omu Police Divisional Headquarters in Osun State, made the allegations against Matthew in the video. She accused him of both assault and blackmail.
The policewoman stated that Matthew had asked her to be his girlfriend, but she declined the offer due to the fact that she was married; however, Matthew persisted in blackmailing her and eventually assaulted her. The policewoman stated that Matthew had asked her to be his girlfriend.
She responded by asking, "What is my crime? He began punching and kicking me to the point where he stripped me naked. Take a look at the wounds that cover my chest, my arms, and the rest of my body. He goes by the name Ajayi Matthew. He suggested that we hang out together and that I become his friend. I replied that I couldn't since I'm a married woman.
"He began attempting to blackmail me by pretending that he is my lover, despite the fact that this is not true."
Our correspondent tried to get in touch with Matthews so he could comment on the claim, but the police officer wouldn't take any of the calls that were placed to his phone.
When contacted by our correspondent on Wednesday, Force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated that the Force Headquarters will wait for a report of the investigation from the Osun State Command before taking any necessary actions on the matter.
Before taking any actions that may be required, we shall wait for the report of the investigation that was conducted by the Osun State Police Command.
Adejobi has stated that "We, however, guarantee the general public that justice will be done on this subject" in order to safeguard the fundamental principles and ethical standards upheld by the NPF.
