According to a recent announcement by the National Youth Service Corps, prospective corps members would now need to bring fitness certificates from accredited public health facilities to orientation camps all around the nation.
Eddy Megwa, Director of Press and Public Relations for the NYSC, said in a statement that the new policy would start with the 2022 Batch "C" Orientation Course and that the certificate of fitness will henceforth be required for registration at camps.
The fitness test, according to the director, will assist the plan determine the health status of corpers and catch those who misrepresent their medical concerns.
Megwa stated, "In order to provide the users with reliable information on their health status and to safeguard them from being taken advantage of by dishonest people.
It is important to remember that the National Health Insurance Authority, under the direction of consultants from tertiary medical institutions, manages the NYSC Orientation Camp Clinics across the country.
"The management of the Scheme introduced presentation of Certificate of Fitness from recognised public health facilities by prospective Corps Members as a requirement for registration at the Orientation Camp due to the regimentation and physical demands of some activities of the NYSC Orientation programme.
The main goal was to give Camp Officials the tools they needed to handle campers who are unfit to participate in specific activities. Because of the widespread misunderstanding of this, dishonest people have tried to blackmail some prospective Corps Members in order to get documents, some of which may not be trustworthy.
