Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has stated that Senator Iyioricha Ayu, the National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), cannot lead the party and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to victory in the presidential election of 2023 due to the fact that he is an individual of questionable character. Governor Wike is the leader of Rivers State.
According to bendelnews, Wike gave a recent speech at Government House in Port Harcourt when the management of New Telegraph Newspaper, led by the Editor-In-Chief, Ayodele Aminu, presented its letter nominating him as the Political Icon of the Year, 2022. Aminu is the editor-in-chief of New Telegraph Newspaper.
Wike has claimed that Ayu is corrupt due to the fact that he has not been able to account for the N11 billion that was realised from the party's primary election, as well as the N100 million that he reportedly received from a governor who has not been named.
We will not retract anything we have stated even if you choose to verbally insult us in the manner in which you intend to do so. There won't be any issues as long as you maintain that you won't give up that position to the southern side. Go ahead, but you can't make us do something that we don't believe is right, and we won't do it even if you insist.
"Therefore, a man of this character simply is not capable, in all candour, of leading this party to victory. He is unable to," stated Governor Wike.
