Ex-security adviser suggests Buhari deprive state governors of ecological funds.

Perekeme Kpodoh, a former security adviser in Bayelsa State, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to cease allocating ecological funding to the governors since they have not implemented the necessary measures to reduce flood disasters in their regions.

Kpodoh contended that the repeated damage caused by floods around the nation was sufficient proof that governors were misusing ecological funding.

In a statement given to DAILY POST in Yenagoa on Tuesday, Kpodoh claimed that the governors' failure to prepare for floods had resulted in the deaths of people, the devastation of homes and farmlands, and the eviction of millions of people from their homes as a result of unabated flood catastrophes.

Kpodoh bemoaned the governors' blatant misappropriation of environmental monies and other financial wrongdoings while hiding behind the immunity protection afforded by the constitution.

He argued that it was past time for the Presidency, National Assembly, and Civil Society Organizations to band together in an effort to lift the immunity that shields governors from accountability for their misdeeds in office.

He suggested that President Muhammadu Buhari transfer environmental monies straight to towns at risk of flooding so they may start efforts like building high-rise assembly points there to prepare for the ongoing calamity.

The security expert urged Buhari to order an investigation into the governors' misappropriation of environmental monies by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The governors must be made to account for the ecological monies that the federal government has given them, according to Kpodoh. Projects required to lessen the detrimental effects of floods are intended to be funded with these monies.

We haven't seen what these governors are doing with the money despite them collecting these billions of naira. Floods remain the same year after year. Houses are flooded, properties are ruined, innocent people are swept away, and farmlands are wasted. We cannot carry on in this manner. It is past time for the National Assembly, the Presidency, and civil society organizations to act together to do rid of the immunity clause that shields these governors from accountability.

"We are also urging President Muhammadu Buhari to order an investigation into these governors and the misappropriation of funds given to them to address ecological issues like floods by the EFCC and the ICPC."
