On Thursday, the Governing Council of Gombe State University (GSU) issued an order requiring all academic staff members of the university to immediately resume their previous duties.
This information was sent to the staff of the university in a note that was dated September 2 and signed by Dr. Abubakar Aliyu Bafeto, the university's Registrar.
He stated that the decision was made by management following the institution's second emergency meeting that took place yesterday. He went on to say that attendance registrations had been issued at the respective head of department (HOD) offices for lecturers who were eager and ready to start courses.
Bafeto made the announcement that the management of the university will apply the principle of "No Work, No Pay" to any and all staff members who did not return their jobs by September 9.
"Accordingly, the university management wishes to bring this information to the attention of all academic staff that the governing council at its second emergency meeting held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 deliberated on the protracted industrial action embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as it affects Gombe State University. "After hours of debate, the council came to the conclusion and issued the directive that all of the academic staff should be back to work as soon as possible. According to the message, attendance registers have been placed in the offices of the HODs for anyone who is eager and ready to resume their duties.
According to the Daily Trust, on August 22 the management of GSU started academic activities for level 100 students. The institution has planned the matriculation ceremony for newly accepted students to take place on September 3.
