The Garcia family revealed on Thursday, May 26 that Irma Garcia's husband, who died shielding children during a horrific shooting at Robb Elementary School this week, has also died.
The death of Garcia's spouse, Joe, was originally reported on Twitter by Ernie Zuniga of KAAB news in San Antonio, Texas.
"Joe Garcia, the husband of Irma Garcia, one of two teachers shot and murdered in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday, has died of a heart attack, according to reports. Joe and Irma met in high school and have been married for 24 years. They leave four children behind "According to Zuniga's tweet.
Joe Garcia Austin died on Thursday morning "as a consequence of a medical emergency," according to a GoFundMe page set up by Garcia's family.

"I genuinely feel Joe died of a broken heart, and losing his lifelong love was too much for him to handle," she wrote.
"EXTREMELY sad and come with profound regret to say that my Tia Irma's husband Joe Garcia has gone away due to grief," stated a Twitter from Garcia's nephew, whose previous tweets about Garcia had been extensively shared by other family members. "I'm at a loss for words when it comes to expressing how we're all feeling."
According to Garcia's bio on the Uvalde school district's website, the pair had been married for 24 years and had four children.
Garcia had already been selected 'teacher of the year' at Robb Elementary after teaching there for 23 years.
