Russia-Ukraine: Ukrainian boxing champion Oleg Prudky dies fighting Russian invaders.

Oleg Prudky, a two-time Ukrainian amateur boxing champion, died at the age of 30 while defending his country against Russia.

The boxer was one of four members of the Cherkasy Police Special Forces killed in an attack on their city base on Sunday, May 22.

"We are sad to announce that the master of sports of international boxing level, champion of Ukraine Oleg Prudky, killed in combat with the Russian occupiers," the Ukrainian Boxing Federation announced.

"Another tragedy in our boxing family," said Serhiy Tyshchenko, President of the Cherkasy Boxing Federation. Oleg Prudky, one of the top boxers in the Cherkasy region, perished in the East.

"I recall your instructor telling you how excited you were to complete tens of kilometres of boxing and cycling to get to training.

"I recall how we cheered you on in Ukrainian Ataman events, and then a whole bus from Cherkasy came to cheer you on, and you won!" Everyone remembers your epic battles.

"You are the first boxer from Cherkasy to win gold in the 60kg weight division."

"Oleg was a two-time Ukrainian champion and a master of international-level sports. Your successes and accomplishments are difficult to quantify; you were a dedicated and hardworking athlete who put in a lot of training time. For future generations, you have set a good example.

"Eternal memory, friend, rest in peace." Heroes never die."

Mariana, his wife, and their two small daughters are his survivors.

Prudky was a two-time amateur champion in his native Ukraine and was called up to the Ukrainian Otamans squad for the semi-professional World Series of Boxing competition, a team that also included Vasyl Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk.
