Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, was killed in a car accident shortly after apologising to the Headies Awards organisers for threatening to kill the artists nominated with him in two categories: Best Street-Hop Artiste and Rookie of the Year.
The musician shared a video of the wrecked vehicle on Instagram. "I'm just looking for something to eat," he said. "May God not let me meet something that will eat me."
But why was the passenger seat, which I sat in, the most damaged area of the vehicle? Meanwhile, nothing occurred to the vehicle's driver's side. They wish to murder a celebrity, but nothing bad will ever happen to a child of God."
The musician had apologised to the Headies for threatening to murder them if he did not win the awards for which he was nominated before the disaster. "Headies have selected a lunatic," he said. The streets have taken over the city.
As a result, you should present us with the award. Please do not become enraged. I won't be the first person to make a mistake. Many people have acted inappropriately in the past. Please, I'd like to receive my prize."
Smooth Promotions Limited, the Headies' parent company, had sent a petition to the Nigerian Police Force on Friday, formally warning them of the singer's threat to other award nominees. They also demanded that the singer apologise for his remarks.
"Should Mr Okikiola fail to meet our demands, we will not only exclude him from participating in the Headies, but we will also execute the law to the utmost extent possible," the statement said.
"Those are my awards," the singer stated on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. If anyone else wins, I'll demand that they be killed. They will die if the organisers give my honour to someone else. Please don't give my award to anyone else. He (the individual) will perish."
