Muhammad Shehu, the Executive Chairman of Nasarawa State's Keffi Local Government Area, was reportedly kidnapped along with his driver by unidentified gunmen.
According to a source who requested anonymity, the chairman was travelling with his driver and a police orderly on Friday night when gunmen set up roadblocks along the Keffi-Akwanga road and shot sporadically in the air, forcing them to stop their vehicle before they were taken.
According to the source, the police orderly attempted to repel the attack in order to bring the situation under control, but regrettably died in the process.
"We received information that the Executive Chairman was returning from a Keffi Old Boys Association programme at Government College in Keffi when his vehicle was attacked.
"His police orderly tried to handle the issue, but he was shot dead by the gunmen before the chairman and his driver could be taken away," the source claimed.
APGA advises Anambra government to treat gunmen as terrorists. Gunmen kill four people at Ebonyi chairman's home.
CP Adesina Soyemi, the state's Commissioner of Police, confirmed the attack and stated police agents had taken over the attack site in order to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers.
"Police officers have arrived in the area where they were abducted." We have seized control of the environment, and I can guarantee you that they will be rescued shortly, and the perpetrators of the crime will face the full force of the law," CP Soyemi added.
