According to Levin Damisah, a Public Health Physician, balanced meals, snacks, drinks, and other healthy lifestyle choices can help avoid stroke.
On Sunday in Abuja, the expert spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He defined a stroke as brain injury caused by a disruption in blood supply.
Damisah described her symptoms as difficulty walking, speaking, and understanding, as well as facial paralysis or numbness.
Early therapy with medications like tPA (clot buster) helps minimise brain damage, according to the expert.
Stroke risk is increased by high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, high blood cholesterol levels, heavy drinking, high salt, high fat diet, and lack of exercise, according to him.
For hypertension prevention, Damisah suggested using blood pressure meds, leading a healthy lifestyle, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep.
He suggested maintaining a healthy weight, engaging in regular physical activity, quitting smoking, limiting alcohol use, monitoring cholesterol, and controlling blood pressure as practises that help prevent the condition.
"Stroke is generally linked with the elderly, although younger people have recently begun to develop hypertension and obesity."
He went on to say, "Good and sustained blood pressure control is crucial to preventing stroke.
