The 2022 Headies Awards organisers have threatened to disqualify Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, for threatening to kill his co-nominees.
This comes after the controversial musician threatened to kill whoever beat him to the awards in a viral video if he didn't win.
Organizers of the Headies have reported singer Portable to the police for threatening to kill co-nominees, threatening to disqualify him.
Portable received two nominations, for 'Rookie of the Year' and 'Best Street-Hop Artiste,' in the nomination list released on Tuesday, May 14.
Av, Fave, Magixx, and Ugocci are among the other nominees in the 'Rookie of the Year' category.
Bella Shmurda, Mohbad, Naira Marley, and Goya Menor are among the competitors in the second category.
Shortly after the news broke, the Zazuu' singer moved to Instagram to threaten whoever won the 2022 Headies Award over him.
In response to the viral video, the award's organisers said they may be compelled to disqualify the musician if he does not retract his statement and submit an apology on his Instagram page by Friday, May 27.
The organisers also stated that the incident had been reported to the authorities.
"Mr. Okokiola's acts have been reported to the Nigerian police by fellow nominees. A demand has also been made for an immediate withdrawal of the video as well as a written apology to the nominees in both categories as well as The Headies.
"If Mr. Okikiola fails to meet our requests, we will not only exclude him from The Headies, but we will also execute the law's instrumentality."
"The general public is now urged to dismiss the film and to refrain from disseminating it in public." The Headies took notice.
