On the Abuja-Kaduna railways, the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, said it had repaired the damaged concrete sleepers and rails.
It further stated that prospective passengers would be required to provide their National Identity Number, or NIN, before purchasing train tickets.
The south end of the train was recently destroyed by insurgent-caused explosions, according to the DAILY POST.
Engr. Fidet Okhiria, the NRC's Managing Director, stated this in a statement made available to journalists in Kaduna.
"The south end of the rails (which was destroyed by the explosion) has been successfully linked to the north end, and track access between Abuja and Kaduna has now been restored," the statement said.
The key track components (Concrete Sleepers and Rails) have been completely laid, allowing the AKTS line to be connected.
"The Technical Team is working on various track stabilisation projects, such as ballasting, tempering, fastening of accessories (clips, bolts, and nuts), and welding.
"The loco 2502, which was involved in the accident (albeit not damaged) and was stuck at the Rigasa end due to a shortage of route access, has now crossed to the Idu end and been transferred to the workshop for a thorough examination and routine maintenance."
The NRC chairman, on the other hand, stated that the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) would restart shortly with extra security measures in place, and that the NIN requirement would aid in passenger profiling and safety on board.
