The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria's ruling party, has set a new timetable for the screening of its presidential candidates for the 2023 general elections.
Suleiman Argungu, the party's National Organising Secretary, made the announcement on Monday in Abuja.
The party's 28 presidential contenders who got forms on Tuesday, May 24th, and Wednesday, May 25th, would be screened at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja, according to Argungu.
In a statement signed by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, dated Sunday, May 22, 2022, the party had previously postponed the screening of its presidential candidates indefinitely.
This was announced in a statement headlined 'Notice of Postponement of APC Presidential Screening Exercise,' dated May 22, 2022, and signed by Felix Morka, the party's National Publicity Secretary.
"The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Aspirants Screening Exercise, previously slated for Monday, May 23rd, 2022, is hereby postponed." The exercise will be rescheduled in the near future.
It had stated, "Any difficulty caused is truly regretted."
The party had already postponed the screening exercise from May 14 and 15 to May 23 to allow former President Goodluck Jonathan and others to submit their candidacy forms after the deadline, as reported by SaharaReporters.
The party had also informed the screening committee that presidential hopefuls would not be screened.
The earlier postponement, according to a party source, was done to allow Jonathan to submit his nomination and expression of interest forms.
Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, APC National Leader Bola Tinubu, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Niger Delta Development, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, former Minister of State for Education Emeka Nwajiuba, and Jigawa State Governor Mohammed Badaru are among the ruling party's candidates.
Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, and Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello are among the others.
