The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has launched Operation Test Run, a nationwide demonstration against the Academic Staff Union of Universities' (ASUU) strike.
According to the DAILY POST, teachers who shut down public universities on February 14 due to the Federal Government's failure to satisfy their demands have extended their strike for another 12 weeks, commencing Monday.
NANS, outraged by the situation, has threatened to shut down all political activity in the country through a statewide demonstration until ASUU and the Federal Government settle their disputes.
Tegbe Stephen, the NANS South West coordinator, told DAILY POST on Wednesday that the order came from the association's National President, Sunday Ashefon, who said students in the region had no choice but to shut down activities.
"Unscrupulous individuals and hired government operatives at all levels should keep away and clear of our actions as we register our outrage," Stephen suggested.
The effects of the mass action, which began on Tuesday, would be "serious," according to the Coordinator.
"The activity is dubbed Operation Test Run, and we in the Southwest will assure 100% compliance with NANS President's command," he stated.
We will occupy all federal roads in the Southwest and obstruct any major political operations.
"I shall be leading the South West zone from the front as we shut down the economy," said the NANS President.
